Do you like graffiti or the way it looks? I bet some of you said yes. Did you know that you end up cleaning it with the taxes that the city charges you? Also graffiti harms everybody and especially public schools. What we should do is protect the #1 target like parks and schools, and stop graffiti so we don’t waste our money that can used for better things than just cleaning graffiti.
With those taxes that they charge us the city can use it to build parks, libraries and shopping centers. My first reason is most people do not like places that are full of graffiti and full of litter. We can also use it to make jobs in the places that can be opened and so Californians are not unemployed and those that can work will work with these new job opportunities. My last point is a survey that might surprise you a bit. A 2006 survey showed that in the 88 cities of the L.A County showed that graffiti cleaning in that year cost this county 28 million dollars and this county only has 10 million residents. Now pointing another direction let’s talk about the bad things about cleaning up graffiti.
Some of you think that graffiti cleaning is good well it also has a dark side. If we clean it up the gangs are more tempted to do graffiti. Also if we do not clean it they can get bored of doing it and may go to another neighborhood and maybe even another city. Also we can just ignore it and not care or we can care a lot. Also like I said in the previous paragraphs the money used to clean graffiti can be used for public reasons. Now that we have disputed both sides of this story let us talk about the art of graffiti.
Graffiti is an art and just because some of it looks ugly and horrendous doesn’t mean that it cannot be done legally. Graffiti is an art and it should not be a killed art. This art can be done in an art studio and done legally. Also if been trained these artists can create beautiful street art. Now I have said everything that I had to say and my last chance to convince you is next.
What we should do stop illegally done but not stop this art form and stop these gangs. But what the gangs don’t know is how hard it is to clean the graffiti so what we should do is stop illegal graffiti and keep this city clean “OUR CITY”.
Have you ever been upset about how animals are mistreated? Do you ever wonder if you could do something about it? Many animals suffer from the lack of care and thoughtfulness by their owners. The sad fact is that many abused animal cases are not reported to the authorities; therefore, the animals eventually end up dead or lost. Animal abuse includes beating, neglecting, torturing, burning, and unethical experimenting. So, I strongly believe that the U.S should enforce more stricter laws to protect animals and deter people from abusing them.
Another form of abuse is the neglect of animals. If owners do not want to take care of their pets why get one? Secondly, more than 10,000,000 animals were found neglected in one year alone worldwide. Next, there were 804 reports of animal abuse in 2009 in the U.S, and that number is increasing each year. Due to the animal neglect and abuse we need laws to protect the helpless creatures that depend on us for protection.
We need to make an effort to reach our local government and ask them to pass stricter laws and harsher penalties to protect these animals. The only way of preventing animal abuse is to make the laws more severe. For example, anyone who abuses animals needs to go to jail. ”People need to be punished because they did something wrong.” says Keiry G., a student that goes to Los Alisos. Although animal abuse is wrong, some people think differently because they lack respect and compassion for animals.
Not all people believe that animal abuse is wrong. Some may think they are just animals and not as important as humans, but as it turns out they are also living creatures that can feel the pain as do humans. Some people may also think that animals lack emotions or the desire of living a happy life because they may not understand how valuable animals are to our lives or the joy they may bring into our lives. Not only do animals provide us with joy, they are also valuable resources to human lives, such as rescue and service animals. I don’t agree to their point of view and something has to be done to protect these animals.
According to what I have learned and believed, our country needs to do more to save and protect animals from human abuse. Now that you know where I stand on the issue of animal cruelty, you need to decide where you stand on this matter. Animal abuse is no joke and needs to be resolved. Finally, the question is, are you with me? YES OR NO?
Imagine a child sitting down on their number at P.E on a viciously hot day. Oh great! Today we’re going to HAVE to play kickball under this crazy, scorching hot sun, the kid thinks, I wish we had a pool, or at least some kind of water games. Can you think how it might feel to think just what this child was thinking? Most of you can, because I know that kids HATE to do P.E on a blazing day. Any sane person would understand: PRE-TEENS DON’T LIKE TO HAVE P.E WHEN IT’S A BOILING DAY! We should have water games on you-can-boil-an-egg-on-the-street days. Basically, if you give over than 100 youngsters a bunch of water under a hot sun when they have to do a certain sweaty sport, then they’ll have a positive attitude towards Physical Education and appreciate working out.
When you look at this situation my way, you’ll realize that you’d like a pool of water in P.E you’d be swimming in. On January 13, 2012 I conducted a survey at Los Alisos Middle School asking the 6th period P.E students a question. My question was, ‘Would you like to have water sports in P.E at LMS?’ The result came out pretty obvious, 95% of the students agreed, they wanted WATER! You might consider how Carlos Espinosa thinks about this, “Well, I sort of agree. Anyways, it’s a new thing . . . what if it doesn’t work out?”
“Sure. It’ll be sort of different because we mostly do sports that a lot of kids SOMETIMES don’t like.” Aliyah Mirza, age 11 at Los Alisos Middle School agrees with me! To brief things up, most of the children agree with having a pool on the blacktop for P.E while several kids are nervous because it’s a new idea.
From another perspective, you may think like Ricardo Brito, “I’d like to have water sports on hot days, but we’ll need lots of money for lifeguards, coaches, construction workers and etcetera , right?” You may also think like a parent, in Norwalk, who claims that the economy is bad and the school can’t afford it. Personally, I think we all should pitch in and print out flyers for parents to sign up and promise to help and give some money. Some may think it’s just useless pitching in and may not even want to have the water games/pool. “Most kids can get sick and/or allergies,” says my brother. “They can slip and get hurt by the edges of the pool, they can drown also.” A reasonable person can assume that there are also many negatives in this topic.
It makes good sense that this matter should not be disregarded because most teachers also agree. Mr. Manso from Los Alisos Middle School thinks we should have some water sports. “If we add water sports, then the kids’ll have a variety of sports . They will be attracted to P.E more.” In a research found on the Internet 40% parents disagreed with swimming in school and 60% agreed to this. Anyhow, swimming and other water sports can be more soothing and relaxing than running and other sports, they also make you more active!
Do you care about yourself or your kids? Do you realize how they’re getting tortured under the sun? If we help and pitch in, then the kids will feel more positive towards Physical Education. So please help me write a letter to our respected principal and involve parents in this great act! Thanks parents, kids and other readers.
Do your kids always have to bug you to take them somewhere? Do you think that the age for driving should be lowered? I think that the age for driving should be lowered, because some parents don’t like to drive their kids everywhere. Some parents always have work to do or errands to run. Kids are always caught walking, skateboarding or riding bikes, but it would be much easier and safer if they could just drive. If kids that have a busy schedule and can make it to where they want to go even without a car, then they can be responsible enough to drive a car.
Kids face signs that prohibit skateboarding and riding bikes in most places. Kids are riding their bikes and skateboards in the street and there are laws against that. There also laws against riding on the sidewalk and many people complain about kids who are going too fast and don’t want to stop for anything. Pedestrians get hit by bikes on the small sidewalk and people in cars hit kids on bikes who ride in the street and don’t care. But this would be solved if the age for getting your license was lowered.
It would also be safer if kids could drive because kids are always getting hit by cars because they have to ride in the street. The sidewalk is filled with walking pedestrians and other people on bikes. There are bike lanes that bicyclist can ride in but they are not everywhere that kids want to go. When you ride a bike you are required to wear a helmet but in a car it is a lot safer because there are seat belts and air bags and the frame of the car to protect the body. Kids who walk can easily get abducted or hit by other kids on bikes.
Some people say that it’s not a good idea. They say that a 12 year old is still a kid. They don’t have the size or mental skills to drive a car. Kids have to know that cars are not toys, they can’t do everything a bike or skateboard can do. Another way to look at the problem is that kids have to take driving seriously and not try to race other cars all the time and follow the law. Drunk driving wouldn’t be a problem with kids because they can’t drink alcohol anyway. Some 12 year olds are not big enough to drive a car; they couldn’t reach the pedals or see over the dashboard. Would kids be able to pay for gas or insurance without any jobs? All this is why 12 year olds shouldn’t be able to drive car at their age.
It may not be a good idea for kids to drive, but in my opinion the age for driving should be lowered. A car is a lot safer than a bike or skateboard. A car is faster than bike or skateboard the kids can get where they need to go. In conclusion I think that the age for driving should be lowered to 12 years old. Kids need transportation!
